Comcast Universal Remote Control Programming Guide
The Comcast 3-Device Universal Remote will control up to three home devices. However is preprogrammed to operate the supplied cable box by Comcast, an RCA television set, and RCA VCR. If you wish to control devices other that these preprogrammed devices you must follow the steps below.
1. Turn on the device you wish to program to the remote. Insert media if relevant, such as a dvd or video cassette. Have your codes ready that coincide with the brand of the device you will be programming the remote to. (Codes are found in the Manufacturer's User Guide)
2. Press the device key on the remote that you will be programming, such as TV or AUX.
*note: The AUX key is used to program a Audio Amplifier or Receiver, a DVD Player, a Home-Theater-In-A-Box Device, a PVR or DVR, or a VCR.
3. Press and hold the Setup button on the remote until the mode key you selected in step 2 blinks twice, then release the Setup button.
4. Locate the code(s) for the name brand of the device you are programming. (More than one code may need to be tried to find the correct code for the device)
5. Enter the first four-digit code found for the device. When the correct code is entered the mode key you selected will blink twice. If an invalid code is entered the mode key you selected will display a single long blink and exit the programming mode. Repeat steps 2-5 with the next code from the User's Guide for your device. When the correct code is entered and the mode key blinks twice, you can then move on to step 6.
6. Press the power button on the remote control while aiming at the device you just programmed. The device should now power off. If the device does not power off the correct code has not yet been entered. Repeat steps 2-6 until the correct code listed for the brand of the device is entered and the device responds and powers off.
*note: If the device does not have a power button use the play button.
7. When the correct code is found, write the code down for future reference.
8. Repeat each step (1-7) above for each device you would like to control.
*note: If the correct code is not found you may scan for the correct code by following the steps below.
Scanning For Codes
When Scanning for Codes the remote control will send IR codes from the file of codes in it memory to the device you are programming, beginning with the most popular codes first.
1. Turn on the device you are programming
2. Press the device key on the remote that you will be programming, such as TV or AUX.
3. On the remote enter 9-1-1. The mode key will blink twice.
4. Point the remote at the device and alternate slowly by pressing the power button and the mode button. Stop when the device powers off. The code for the device has now been found.
5. Press the Setup button once to lock in the code. The mode button you chose will blink twice.
6. To Scan for Codes for another device repeat steps 1-5 pressing the correct mode button for the device you will be scanning for.
Now you may need to know what the code is that is operating the device you scanned for. To find out what the four-digit code is use the following steps:
1. Turn on the device
2. Press the correct mode button for the device you programmed on the remote. Then press and hold the Setup button until the mode key blinks twice, then release the Setup button.
3. On the remote enter 9-9-0. The mode key will blink twice.
4. To view the first number for the code press the 1 button. Wait 3 seconds and the mode key you chose will blink the number of times for the first digit in the code (e.g. if the first digit is 4 the mode key will blink 4 times). Write the first digit down.
5. Repeat step 4 to view the remaining 3 digits pressing the 2 button for the second digit, 3 button for the third digit, and 4 button for the fourth digit. Write each digit down.
*note: If any digit in the four-digit code is 0 the mode button will not blink.
6. Repeat steps 1-5 to Scan for Codes for other devices.
