Dish Programming Guide

Dish Network Programming Guide

To program a Dish Network remote control is quite simple. You will only need one remote control if you program it to control your TV, DVD, VCR, and or stereo amplifier. Your remote is already set up to control the receiver but you must program it to use your other devices. To look up the codes that are necessary to program the Dish Network remote you will need to have either your user manual or just view these DEVICE CODES links: AUX, VCR, DVD, TV, or CABLE. Follow these easy instructions to simply program your remote, and remember to use the corresponding codes.

Program Your Remote Control in 6 Easy Steps

1) Turn on the power on the device, such as the TV, that you will be programming into the Dish Network remote control.

2) Select and hold the mode button for which you are programming, such as the TV button, on the remote until you see all the lights of the mode buttons flash. Once you let go, that mode button that you chose should now be blinking. When using the Aux mode button only use the number pad to enter 0 for a second TV, 1 for a second VCR/DVD, 2 for a amplifier, tuner, or cable box.

3) In the user manual, look for the section that reads "Manufacturer codes for programming the remote." Look down the list for the name brand (Sony, JVC, GE, etc.) of the device ( AUX, VCR, DVD, TV, or CABLE) you are programming. Next to the brand name, you will find the codes that you will need to try. You may need to try several of these codes before you find the right one.

4) Enter the first code on the number key pad and press the pound (#) button. If the code was entered correctly the mode button that you chose will flash three times.

5) Press the power button on the Dish Network remote to test if the remote works for the device that you are programming. If so the device should shut off.

6) Turn the device that you just programmed back on and try using other buttons on the remote to make sure that they also work. If not, programming has not yet been successful and you will need to try the next code on the list until all buttons on the remote work on the device. (Repeat steps 1-6 with each code until the right code has been found).

7) If the correct code for your device is not listed in the user manual or on this site, try Scan for Device Codes listed below.

Scan For Device Codes

If the code for the device you are programming is not listed in the user manual or on this site, try these steps to scan the remote controls memory for device codes.

1) Turn the power on the device on

2) Select and hold the mode button for which you are programming, such as the TV button, on the remote until you see all the lights of the mode buttons flash. Once you let go, that mode button that you chose should now be blinking. When using the Aux mode button only use the number pad to enter 0 for a second TV, 1 for a second VCR/DVD, 2 for a amplifier, tuner, or cable box. Then press the STAR (*) button.

3) Press the power button on the Dish Network remote control.

4) Repeatedly press the UP or DOWN button on the remote to scan for the correct code (do this slowly so you do not skip over the right code for your device). When the correct code is reached the device will turn off.

5) Press the POUND (#) button to store the code in the Dish Network remote.

6) Press the power button to turn the device back on and try using other buttons on the remote to make sure that they also work. Sometimes the power button will work while others may not.
